First instituted at WrestleMania 21, the Money in the Bank Ladder Match has become one of the most prestigious and most anticipated contests in WWE. Now, for the first time ever, the match will be the focal point of WWE’s newest pay-per-view on July 18, 2010. As first revealed by SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long, eight SmackDown Superstars will compete for a contract giving the bearer the right to challenge SmackDown’s World Heavyweight Champion at any time, at any place, for up to one year.
To earn the tremendous opportunity, a Superstar must climb the ladder and obtain the briefcase holding the coveted championship contract within. The following SmackDown Superstars are scheduled to compete: Former World Champion Big Show, Matt Hardy and Christian, two veterans when it comes to Ladder Matches, high-flying Intercontinental Champion Kofi Kingston, second-generation Superstar Cody Rhodes, ruthless up-and-comers Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler as well as the diabolical Kane.
Considering the outstanding success rate for those who have cashed in the contract in becoming World Champion, the briefcase’s value has driven Superstars to great lengths (and heights) in its pursuit. And for the first time ever, there will be two Money in the Bank Ladder Matches contested at one pay-per-view, as the Raw roster will also compete in its own eight-man battle for glory.
Watch live on pay-per-view on July 18 at 8 p.m. ET to see who will be the next Superstars to earn the “Mr. Money in the Bank” moniker.

Which Smackdown Superstar Will Climg The Rungs?
- Christian and Matt hardy have competed in a number of high-stakes Ladder Match in their storied careers. More importantly, each has appeared in three Money InThe Bank Ladder Matches, giving them ample explerience to prevail this time around.
- This marks “Dashing” Cody Rhodes’ first appearance in a Money In The Bank Ladder Match. Though obsessed with his looks these days, the cocky Superstar will be determined to “dash” up the ladder and win a Smackdown title opportunity. After all the Superstar will admit, he’d look even better with a World Championship around his waist.
- After an unkown attacker left his brother The Undertaker in a “vegetative state,” Kane has been even more of a monster than usual in his quest for vengeance. AlthoughThe Big Read Machine’s not the largest competitor in this match – that honor belongs to Big Show – he might just be the meanest.
Prediction: Ambitious Smackdown Superstar Drew McIntrye had cmilbed his fair share of figurative ladders in WWE. Having squirmed his way into this Money In The Bank Ladder Match, the so-called “Chosen One” just migh have a new nickname once this match is over: “Mr. Money In The Bank.”
